OBITUARY

"As soon as man, expert from time, has found
The day of life, it opens the gates of death!"

Died, Sunday morning, July 17, 1887, in Manning, Iowa, of puerperal fever, Mrs. Annie Larson, wife of Chris Larson, aged 27 year and 2 days.

Mrs. Larson was the daughter of O. and Anna Bergeson; she was born on the St. Lawrence river while her parents were emigrating to America; the family located in Wisconsin, from whence they moved to Story City, Ia., in 1865. She was married to Chris Larson the 8th of September, 1885, and arrived at Manning the following week. Here they joined their efforts to fight the battles of life - the husband being a progressive business man, and during the May days of the present season, directed their efforts toward building themselves a home, but before it was entirely completed and they had scarcely entered upon its enjoyment, the bride of a summer and the mother of a week, was stricken down and all the joy and happiness was turned to weeping and sorrow. Mrs. Larson received the best of medical treatment from the commencement of her ailment, and all that loving hearts and willing hands could do was done for her, but to no avail. Death had claimed his victim, and it is beyond earthly skill and power to rescue from his cruel, iron grasp.

The funeral services were held at their residence Sunday evening, after which the procession followed the remains to the Milwaukee depot from whence it was taken to her former home and interred in the Story City cemetery on Monday afternoon. The Manning Fire Company of which Mrs. Larson is a member, attended the services in a body and escorted the remains to the depot. Two of their members were delegated to accompany Mr. Larson on his sad mission. This token of esteem and sympathy from his associates was highly appreciated by the friends of the deceased and was commendable to all and reveals the fruits of friendship developed in organized associations.

Mrs. Larson was a loving companion, a kind friend and a christian woman. Her warm heart and gentle disposition had gained her a warm welcome from the citizens of Manning. Her constant gentle spirit, her amiable conduct toward all whom she met and the genuineness of her friendship with her associates were characteristic elements of her life and caused her to be loved and admired by all who knew her. To learn how she was loved among her former associates one had only to observe the immense number of sad hearts that beat above her form as it was lowered to its final resting place.
The present experience of Mr. Larson is truly sad and disappointing and the motherless babe is cast to other arms for protection and care. May kind hearts and soothing hands be ever ready to administer tender mercies and motherly assistance to the unfortunate babe whom cruel fate has forever robbed of a mother's love and care.

The following resolutions were adopted by the Manning Hose Company.

WHEREAS, It has pleased the Ruler of the Universe to take from our midst by death Anna, the beloved wife of Mr. C. J. Larson, who is a most faithful and trusted member of the Manning Hose Co. No. 1, therefore, be it

RESOLVED. That these resolutions be spread upon the book of records of the company and that copies be presented our afflicted comrade and to the parents of deceased.
