From the Story City News, published in Story City, Story County, Iowa on Friday, July 15th, 1887.

Mrs. Elizabeth McCarthy, of Ames, died at her home, the residence of Mrs. Ben Reid, on Tuesday evening from an attack of apoplexy which came upon her several days before. Her funeral occurred yesterday at 1:30 p.m. She was in her 80th year.
