Funeral Service Held Wednesday For Mrs. Ellenor Flower

Zearing, Feb. 24--Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at the Evangelical U.B. church for Mrs. Ellenor Flower with Rev. C. L. Fuller in charge assisted by Rev. Orville Cox of Marshalltown. Pall bearers were John Varnum, Dale Cook, Arthur Couser, W. H. Brown, I. S. Madison, Martin Skrovig.

Songs were sung by Mesdames Mildred Tillotson, Veva Cook, Arthur Turner, Glenn McBride with Mrs. Walter Lund at the piano.

The following obituary was read at the service:

Ellenor Eugene Bull, the youngest of ten children of Squire and Sarah Bull, passed away on Feb. 16, 1948, at the farm home where she had lived for 84 years. She was born near Galesburg, Ill., May 13, 1860, coming to Iowa in the fall of 1863, with her parents. Her father had been out to this pioneer country in 1862 and purchased 160 acres of land at $8.50 per acre. The first winter the family lived in a shanty where the Sherm Brown house is in Illinois Grove.

In the spring her father bought a log cabin and moved it to a hill about 1/4 mile west of the present home. Here the family lived until the present home was built. She remembered the town of Zearing when it was corn and prairie. She remembered Dr. Zearing who gave the bell to the Evangelical church when it was built, the town being named after him. Her father and mother were charter members of the Evangelical Church. they passed away in 1890, also her nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death, Sarah, Mary, Julia, Lucia, Alice, her twin sister Helen, Laaette, Delatus and George.

On June 2, 1890, she was united in marriage to John E. Flower of Evansville, Wis. He preceded her in death in August of 1935. To this union were born five children, Constance G. Lundin of Zearing, Violet Mae who passed away shortly after her birth, Bydine P. Andrews of Seligman, Mo., Elwin E. Flower of Grand Junction and Myrtle H. White of Lemay, Mo. There are nine grandchildren, Dean Andrew of Hubbard, Mrs. June Chamberlin of New Providence, Beryl W. Lunden of Bangor, Milo Lunden of Kokomo, Ind., James White of Detroit, Mich., David Andrew of Washington, D. C., Bill White of Lemay, Mo., Ellenor May and Mary Julia Flower of Grand Junction. There are also three great grandsons.

She had great faith in Christ and his power and looked forward to the Eternal Home. Recently from Waterloo two broadcasts were given of her life as a pioneer. She will be greatly missed as a loving mother by those left in passing.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Ringold, Mrs. May Draper, Mrs. Gladys Wilkins, Mrs. Ray Winters and son Jerry, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Skrovig all of Marshalltown; Mrs. Florence Olsen of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. William Bell, Lin Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Flower and daughters of Grand Junction; Miss Dorothy Richards of Hubbard; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mitchell of Liscomb; Mrs. John Roche of Colo; Mrs. Gladys Hinshaw of Clemons, Paul Biotto of Bangor; Mrs. Irene Norman of Des Moines.
