Funeral Service Held Thursday For Frank W. Rhodes

Colo, Feb. 24 -- Funeral services were held Thursday after noon at 2 p. m. for Frank W. Rhodes, 71, of Colo, at the Evangelical U. B. Church, with the Rev. R. L. Russell, pastor, in charge of the service.

Music for the services, included two duets, by Mrs. Walter Bamford and Mrs. Charles Yeager, who sang, "Under His Wings" and "Abide With Me." By special request, Rev. R. L. Russell sang "Some time, He will make it plain to me." Mrs. Mark Wilson was pianist for the service.

Casket bearers were Ross White, Charles Jay, Orville Weir, Omar Farren, Pat Pekin, Charles Lehman and Nelson Perry. Burial was in the Colo Cemetery.

The many beautiful flowers were cared for and arranged by Mrs. Mae Perry, Mrs. Art Perry and Mrs. Bert Olson.

The very high regard in which the deceased was held was evidenced in the large number of floral offerings, which surrounded the bier, and also by the attendance of many sorrowing relatives and friends.

The following obituary was read by Rev. Russell during the service:

"Frank W. Rhodes was born Feb. 5, 1877 near Eldora, Iowa, the son of Asbury and Emeline E. Rhodes and passed away in the hospital at State Center, Iowa Feb. 15, 1948 at the age of 71 years, 10 days. He had been in the hospital a little over two weeks when a heart ailment proved fatal.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Andrews on March 8 1899. To this union were born 6 children. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, four sons: Vern and Roy of Zearing, Wayne of Dows, Iowa and Forrest of Sacramento, California; two daughters Mrs. Irene Norman of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Bernice Van Deventer of Coalinga, California, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two sister: Mrs. Oliver Reece of San Diego, California and Mrs. A. B. Rash of New Providence, Iowa; one brother, Floyd of Clemens. He was preceeded in death by his parents and two brothers: Roy and Harley.

He lived in Hardin County until 15 years ago when he moved to a farm south of Colo where he lived until 4 years ago. Since then he had made his home in Colo until his passing.

He united with the Honey Creek Friends Church when a young man. He was a man of high ideals and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was devoted husband, a loving father and thoughtful neighbor. He will be deeply mourned and greatly missed by his many friends and loved ones.
