Rites in McCallsburg For Mrs. W. H. Reid
Funeral services for Mrs. W. H. Reid were held at the McCallsburg Presbyterian church on Sunday, Aug. 28 with Rev. J. D. Ransom officiating.
Casket bearers were John Hauptly, E. R. Morris, Andy Thompson, F. E. Nail, Alfred Mannes and Guy Mills.
In addition to the beautiful flowers, which were arranged by Mrs. Alfred Mannes and Mrs. L. G. Ellingson, there were many beautiful gifts to missions and to the Bethany church building fund in Mrs. Reid's honor.
Mrs. F. E. Nail, Miss Catherine Craig and Mrs. Guy Mills sang two numbers, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sometime De'll Unders tand." They were accompanied by Miss Cleo Tett.
Burial was in the Zearing cemetery beside Mr. Reid who passed away in 1944.
Obituary
The following obituary was read by Rev. Ransom:
Ruth Belle, daughter of James F. and Pearl A. Sanders was born near Wheatfield, Ind. on March 14, 1875 and passed away at Des Moines on Aug. 25, 1949 at the age of 74 years, five months and 11 days.
At the age of six weeks she came with her parents in a covered wagon to Story county, Iowa and they settled in Warren township close to where McCallsburg is now located.
She was married at McCallsburg on Nov. 16, 1892 to Walter Howard Reid.
Mr. and Mrs. Reid were the parents of three children. A son who died in infancy and two daughters, Mrs. Sidney (Leah) Martin of Carroll, Iowa and Mildred Lucille who passed away in 1914 at the age of 12.
Mrs. Reid lived most of her life in Warren township and McCallsburg except the few years she and her husband spent in Marshalltown.
She was a long-time faithful member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian church and at the time of her death was the oldest ------ member.
She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away Sept. 22, 1944.
Survivors
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Sidney Martin of Carroll, her granddaughter, Mrs. John K. DuVall of Des Moines, one great granddaughter, Renee DuVall of Des Moines, two sisters, Mrs. Ward Hamilton of Deland, Fla., and Mrs. W. T. Ide of LaJolla, Calif. and three brothers, E. W. Sanders of Graettinger, J. Frank Sanders of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Dr. James S. Sanders of Sanborn, Iowa.
Among the relatives attending the funeral were her sister, Mrs. Veda Hamilton of DeLand, Fla.; her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Sanders of Sanborn, nieces and nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Clark of Lake Park, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Strandberg of St. Cloud, Monn., Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clark and Martin Clark of Montecello, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Clark of Delhi, Iowa, and Ray Taylor of Ames and Mrs. Carrie Beach, a sister-in-law from Minneapolis.
Many friends from Carroll, Des Moines, Zearing, Story City, Nevada, Roland, Gilbert and Newton also attended.
