Funeral Services for Charles Sapp Were Held at Collins

Collins, June 15--Funeral services for the late Charles Wesley Sapp, who passed away Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tressie Fleshman at Marshalltown, were held from the Collins Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Ida I. Roberts of Collins in charge. A quartet composed of Mrs. A. Shipley, Miss Myrl Huntrods, Rev. Harold Knight and Norman Stevens with Mrs. Knight as accompanist sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Safe In the Arms of Jesus" and "No Night There."

Burial was n the Day cemetery southeast of Collins by the side of the wife who passed away in 1913. The pallbearers were Willis and Ray and Will Evans, Thomas Dawson, Byrl Bell and Paul Sapp.

The following obituary was read at the funeral services by Rev. Roberts.

Charles Wesley Sapp was born at Mt. Carmel, Ill., Feb 19, 1856 and died suddenly of a heart attack on the morning of June 9, 1938 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tressie Fleshman of Marshalltown at the age of 82 years, five months and 20 days.

He was married to Elizabeth Ann Evans December 23, 1875 in Story county, Iowa. To this union were born ten children, eight being present at the funeral services. Two sons, John and Oscar, preceded him in death. His wife passed away at their home at Galt, Mo., November 25, 1913.

He had been a member of the Methodist church for more than fifty years.

He leaves to mourn his passing Otto and Ed Sapp of Donald, South Dakota; Ray Sapp of Nunda, South Dakota, Ernest Sapp, Mrs. Mamie Tupper and Tressie Fleshman of Marshalltown, Mrs. Minnie Ingerman of Sewal and Mrs. Celeste Mayturn of Sunnyside, Washington; one brother, Marcellus Sapp of Colfax; one sister, Mrs. Mary Eckles of Sunnyside, Washington; also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Sapp was an early day resident of this community and will be remembered by the older people who extend their sympathy to the sorrowing family.
