Funeral Services for Maxwell Pioneer Held on Tuesday

Maxwell, May 20--Funeral services for Samuel Gibson, who passed away Sunday morning were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Maxwell with Rev. T. J. Pettit in charge, assisted by Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada. Music was furnished by a male quartette composed of M. H. Troup, S. J. Tomlinson, H. E. Fackler and C. B. French with Mrs. Guston Nelson at the piano. Mrs. Ray Gooden sang "Shadows" accompanied by Mrs. Nelson. Mrs. T. J. Morrison and Mrs. T. H. Morrison had charge of the flowers which were very beautiful. Pall bearers were nephews of the deceased, Wm., T. H. and T. J. Morrison, Joe Young, H. E. Gibson and Dave Pearson. Burial was in the Peoria cemetery.

Samuel Gibson, son of David and Emma Hardenbrook Gibson, was born in Noble county, Indiana July 31, 1854. He came to Iowa with his parents when ten years old, settling in Peoria City. He grew to manhood in this community and was married to Sarah Mickle Sept. 21, 1874. Five children were born to this union, three of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Edward Jones of Marion and Guy Gibson of Cedar Rapids survive her father. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson lived on a farm south of Maxwell until the fall of 1926 when they moved to Marion to make their home with their daughter. Mrs. Gibson passed away in February, 1928.

Mr. Gibson was in failing health for over four years, being an invalid for the past two years. Besides his two surviving children he leaves a sister, Mrs. Wm. Young of Maxwell, only surviving member of the pioneer Gibson family.

Relatives from a distance attending the services were Mrs. J. E. Welch and daughter, Mrs. Leslie, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Welch, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Day, Mrs. Tilfin Hall and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lulu Kern, Mrs. Galen Pease, Mrs. Curtis Shissler, Mrs. Lulu Beals of Colfax, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Long and Robert Gardner of Mingo, Mrs. E. E. Nason, Mrs. Gwendolyn Myer of State Center, Mrs. Glen Tilton, Dewey Kern, Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Ozmun, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dusenbury, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Morrison, Jefferson Morrison of Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Miller of Nevada.
