Obituary of the Late Robert Murphy; Colo

Funeral services for the late Robert Murphy, who died at his home in Colo Sunday, were held at St. Mary's church, that place, Tuesday morning by Father Nichols and interment was in St. James cemetery.

Easter Sunday morning Robert Murphy was summoned to receive the reward which the Lord the Just Judge will render unto him. He had complained but a few days before of a pain in his chest and on the Saturday before Easter was compelled to go to bed. A dry pleurisy had set in and his heart was somewhat weakened bu the doctor did not consider him as seriously ill. About 6 a. m. Sunday morning his daughter Mary entering his bed room found him dead. It seemed as though death had come peacefully while he slept. He was one of the family of fifteen children of Philip and Elizabeth McKeown Murphy and was born near the little town of Erinsville, near Kingston, Ontario, Canada, March 29, 1854. At the age of 24 he came to Michigan then to Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana.

He had lived in Story county about 45 years. On April 13, 1887 he married Miss Mary Sinnott of Collins. The first year of their married life was lived on a farm near Elwell. After that they lived of the farm southeast of Colo till 1918 when he moved to Colo. Mrs. Murphy died a little over two years ago.

The are left to mourn his death four children, Anastasia, Phillip and Mary of Colo and Pierce of St. Paul, Minn. The oldest child Robert died in infancy. There are also four brothers and one sister, W. J. Murphy, St. Paul, Minn., Redmond Murphy, Oakdale, N. D., Philip Murphy, Butte, Montana, A. E. Murphy, Boone, Ia., and Mrs. Theresa Nicholson, Atlanta, Ga.

Funeral services were held from St. Marys Catholic church at 10 a. m. Tuesday with Father Nichols officiating at Mass. Burial was in St. James cemetery.

Relatives and friends present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Murphy, St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Murphy and Redmond, Boonen, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Sullivan, Guckeen, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Poorbaugh, Mingo, J. S. Poorbaugh, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Graham, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Sinnott, Osceola, Mrs. John Weber and son John, Marshalltown, Mrs. Margaret Wagner, Marshalltown, T. J. Mahoney and Mrs. Dora Reilly, Boone. His busy useful life is ended. His work is done. May he rest in peace.
