Barker Funeral Service in Nevada Saturday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. C. D. Barker, 70, who died at her home south of Nevada Thursday morning December 17, were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church in Nevada, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.
The age of Mrs. Barker was 69 years, 11 months and 11 days, according to the obituary read at the service.
"Her maiden name was Emily Ann Eastman. She was born near New Milford, Illinos on January 6th, 1862. Her father enlisted in the Union Army of the Civil war and the year following, was killed in battle. A few years later, with her mother, she came to Story county which was her residence until her death. She was married to Charley D. Barker on August 31, 1878. They began their home on a farm in Union township, Story county, where they have lived for over 53 years.
"To them were born seven children; five of whom, with the husband, are left to mourn their loss. They are Ada Ray of Des Moines, Angie Gutekunst of State Center, Leslie Barker and Jess Barker of Nevada and Alta Maxwell of Des Moines. Otto Barker died in infancy and Arthur Barker in February 1926.
"By her death, a wonderful organization has been destroyed and a partnership of body, soul and spirit broken up and though by her death, we are separated from her living form and her bright loving presence and a place is left vacant which no other one can fill, yet she has gained in her heavenly home, eternal happiness."
