George Roberson Well Known Ames Resident, Is Dead

Special to the Journal:
Ames, July 6--Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Duckworth Funeral home here for George Roberson, 81, pioneer mechanic, who died at his home at 415 East Second street early Wednesday.

A native of Denmark, he came to Ames in 1883 and since that time had conducted a machine shop and became a familiar figure in the business life of the city.

"If it can be fixed, George Roberson can fix it," was a familiar expression in Ames.

Roberson sharpened the first lawn mower that came to Ames, he repaired the first bicycle to be pedaled bout the college town and when Fred Gerbracht brought the first automobile to Ames it was Roberson who was called upon frequently to start it.

Surviving are his wife and eight children, Lou, Cliff, George, Laurence, Mrs. Arthur Crowe and Rose of Ames; Frank of Gary, Inc., and Lillian of Chicago. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be George Graham, C. J. Morgan, George Pohlman, Milo Manning, George T. (Cap) Kooser and Seth Morris.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: George Roberson married Anna Johnson, daughter of Lars and Nevolina Johnson, on 18 December 1883 in Ames, Story County, Iowa.
