JOE PETTINGER DIED HERE TODAY

MILFORD TOWNSHIP FARMER PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING

Joe Pettinger, long time resident of southwest Milford township, died at Iowa sanitarium this morning about 11 o'clock from a complication of heart and kidney trouble and high blood pressure.

Mr. Pettinger, whose health has been failing for the past year or more, had been a patient at the sanitarium for the past seven weeks and his passing was not unexpected.

Mrs. Pettinger died about a year ago and he leaves one invalid son Clarence Pettinger and an adopted daughter Nellie Pettinger*.

Funeral arrangements were not determined this afternoon, the body having been taken from here to an Ames mortuary.

Joseph E. Pettinger was a native of New Jersey, where he was born December 4, 1858. He came to Story county many years ago and had his home continuously on the northwest quarter of section 31, Milford township.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Nellie Maude Pettenger was born Nellie Maude Huntley and was the daughter of Frank D. Huntley and Harriet E. Smith. She was adopted by her half-aunt and her husband, Matilda Smith and Joseph Pettenger.
