Funeral Services for Mrs. Virgil Shickells Held Thursday

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Nov. 19--Funeral services for the late Mrs. Virgil Shickells*, who passed away on Monday forenoon at her home northwest of Collins, were held Thursday at 2:00 p. m. at the United Brethren church in Collins, with the Rev. Buland of the Palestine Lutheran church at Huxley, in charge of the services. He was assisted by the Rev. Harold Knight of the local U. B. church. A mixed quartette composed of Mrs. Harold Knight, Mrs. Ray Adams, Supt. G. C. Holmes and Basil Grimes with Mrs. Richard Hass as accompanist sang "The Old Rugged Cross," The Upper Gardens," "Sometime We'll Understand" and "God Will Take Care of You."The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful and were arranged and cared for by Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. Chas. Everett.

Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins. The pallbearers, chosen from the Crusaders class of the U. B. church were Millard Ward, Thurman Streeter, Milton Hale, Robert Johnson, Irwin Anderson and Geo. Jacobson.

The following obituary was read at the services.

Amanda Harriett Sheldall* the daughter of Howard and Matilda Sheldall was born near Huxley, Ia., Jan. 28, 1912 and went to her final rest at her farm home near Collins, Nov. 15, 1937 at the age of 25 years, 9 months and 18 days.

She grew to womanhood at Huxley, attended and graduated from the Huxley high school in 1930 and throughout her short life was a member of the Palestine Lutheran church, having been baptized and confirmed in that faith.

On March 19, 1932, she was united in marriage to Virgil C. Shickells of Collins and to this union one son Eldon Kim was born.

For the last year and a half she has been in failing health, though able to minister to the needs of her family, bearing her suffering with patience and fortitude. She was at all times greatly interested in the welfare of her husband and little son. Since her marriage she has been affiliated with the United Brethren church at Collins and was an active member of the missionary society, Ladies Aid, and president of the Young Married Peoples Sunday school class. She was a loyal member of every department of the church. The handicap of poor health could not keep her from doing the things to further God's kingdom here on earth. She planned even on her last day of life to be found in His house on the Sabbath. Next to her immediate family the Crudader's class of the church will miss her most. As their leader she had planned for the meeting to be held this week.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and baby son, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sheldall, an aged grandmother, four sisters and three brothers. They are Joan Tracy, Esther Brown, Vivian, Hubert, Helen, Marie and David Sheldall. A host of other relatives and friends mourn her passing for in her sweet and kindly way she had endeared herself to them all.

The services were largely attended, many coming from a distance to pay their last respects to one they so dearly loved and respected.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The maiden name of the deceased was Amanda Harriet Sheldahl (not Sheldall as stated) and she was married to Virgil Shickell (not Shickells as stated.)
