Arach Joe Wilson II, age 66, of Ames, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Friendship Baptist Church, 2400 Mortensen Road, Ames, Iowa. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Friendship Baptist Church. Following the funeral will be a luncheon at the church. Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr., Adel, Iowa.

Arach Joe Wilson II was born January 13, 1953 to Arach and Jamie (Mallory) Wilson in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Cobb Avenue High School in 1971. Following high school, Arach attended Tuskegee Institute where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1975. Arach met his wife, Ellevese Jodie Driggins while attending Tuskegee Institute and they were married December 19, 1975 in Tuskegee, Alabama. After his graduation he continued his education and in 1979 he obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee Institute. After graduation he entered the United States Army June 18, 1979 and served as a Veterinary Services Officer. He also moved to Massachusetts and began his career. In 1982, after 3 years in Massachusetts Arach and his wife moved to California where he began his career with the USDA. In 1984 they moved to Ames, Iowa, where he continued his education at Iowa State University. In 1991 Arach served in support of operation Desert Shield/Desert Strom. Arach graduated in 1995 from Iowa State University with his Master of Science and Major in Veterinary Pathology. While living in Ames he continued his career with the USDA until his retirement in January 2016. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserves as a Major.

Arach’s life was considered to be the American Dream. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was very important to him and he dedicated his life to providing for them. He wanted to give his family things he never had. Education was very important to him and it was important to him that his children had the best education possible. He was a humble man, and a role model to his children and others.

Arach was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and NAACP.

Arach is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jodie; children, Virginia (Steven) Heal of Ladora, IA, Arach Joe (Ashley) Wilson of Ames, IA, and Christine Wilson; his grandchildren, Stevie Heal, Jodie Heal, and AJ Wilson; and a sister, Cheryl Lyn Wilson of Alabama.

Arach is preceded in death by his parents, Arach and Jamie Wilson; and his sister, Glenda Wilson.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu in flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Friendship Baptist Church.
