Former Story County Man Killed In Auto Accident

John Q. Wickham, former Story county man, was instantly killed in an automobile accident near St. Augustine, Florida, last night, according to a message received in Nevada to a son W. W. Wickham, who lives in the Benjamin apartments.

The message which was dated at St. Augustine at 2:09 a.m. today, says

"Dad instanly killed in auto accident tonight. Notify Ronald at once. Advise me of your plans at St. Augustine," signed Joe.

Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Wickham had left here Friday morning on a motor trip south, with their destination undecided when they left Nevada.

Means to locate the Nevada Wickhams were at once started by the Evening Journal, by putting a broadcast on both Highway Patrol, police and commercial radios and the news wires and the message was placed in the hands of the brother, Ronald, through the police at Boone, where he is employed.

John Q. Wickham, formerly an engineer at Ames for a number of years, was a son of the pioneer H. C. Wickham of near Zearing. Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Wickham and the younger children of their family of nine, moved to Florida about thirteen years ago and have their home at Eau Galle, a small place near St. Augustine.

Two of the sons have remained in Iowa; Win W. being employed by the Iowa Highway commission at Ames and having his home in Nevada, while the other is Ronald who lives at Boone.

Mr. Wickham laves besides his wife and nine children, brothers Charles of near Zearing and Cornell of Virginia, and sisters Mrs. Cerka, Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. Arrasmith of Zearing and Anna Wickham of Nevada.

The Evening Journal contacted Miss Wickham here during the forenoon and she in turn notified the relatives at Zearing.

It is probable, said Miss Wickham, that the brother will be buried at St. Augustine, as they have one child buried there.

No further definite word is likely to be learned hear until the son W. W. Wickham is contacted on the road somewhere.

Mr. Wickham was well known over the county through his work as a drainage and road engineer in earlier years.
