Services for area deaths

LETHA LEDBETTER

Services for Letha Ledbetter, mother of former Journal editor-publisher, Wit Ledbetter, will be held Saturday, June 29, at 1:30 p.m. in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Ledbetter, 78, died at the Story County Hospital of an apparent coronary Thursday at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Born August 18, 1895 at Trenton, Missouri, Mrs. Ledbetter was educated in rural schools, graduated with a B.A. degree from Hardin College and received her B.S. degree from the University of Missouri, where she received Phi Beta Kappa honors.

In 1923, Mrs. Ledbetter married Frank, and the couple lived in Carterville, Illinois from 1923 until 1958 while Mr. Ledbetter published the Carterville Herald.

In 1958, the family moved to Nevada where Ledbetter became co-publisher, and eventually editor-publisher of the Nevada Evening Journal.

Mrs. Ledbetter taught elementary education in Trenton, Mo., before coming to Iowa where she was a member of the Professional Women's Club and Women's Federated Club.

Rev. Marvin Hulse will be officiating minister at Saturday's services. Burial will be in the Edinburg, Mo. cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Trenton, Mo.

Mrs. Ledbetter is survived by one son, Wit, and one brother Alfred Witen, of Trenton, Mo.
