Alfred Ernest Ritchie
March 11, 1926, to Nov. 24, 1991Alfred Ernest Ritchie, 65, of Jordan died of heart failure in Boone.
He was born to Alfred and Isabelle Ritchie in East Orange, N.J. He and his family lived in Nevada for over 20 years and his four sons graduated from Nevada High School. He retired as a research physicist, specializing in electron microscopy at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Animal Disease Laboratory in Ames where he worked from 1958 to 1985.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of many scientific associations, including the International Congress of Electron/Microscopy, the International Congress of Micro Biology and the International Congress of Virology.
Survivors include four sons, Bruce of Riverside, Mark and Niel of Minneapolis, and David of New York, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and one sister, Marilyn Cullen of Tacoma, Wash.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Memorial services were held Wednesday at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames. Burial will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established at Collegiate United Methodist Chruch, 2622 Lincolnway, Ames.
