Military Rites Held For Cpl. Leamon Schultz*

Military funeral services were conducted for Cpl. Leamon E. Schultz from the Brouhard Funeral Home, Zearing, Iowa, on September 9, 1953, at 2:00 p. m. The Rev. Darald D. Eller, pastor of the Bethel Evangelical Church officiated.

Mrs. Walter Lund played the piano and accompanied a male quartet composed of Eldon Crain, Paul Lundy, Dale Johnston and Glenn McBride.

Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Hartley Golly and Mrs. Arthur Cook.

Casket bearers were: James Moody, Roy Wheat, Richard Link, Joseph Powers, William Schultz, and Harold Borton.

Member of the Colo and Zearing American Legion posts paid tribute to their fallen comrade by their presence at the funeral and were in charge of military rites at the graveside.

Interment was in the Zearing cemetery.

Obituary

Cpl. Leamon Elmer Schultz*, oldest child of George and Cleffie Schultz, was born December 12, 1932, at Hand, Arkansas. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1936 and lived both in Colo and in Nevada where he attended school.

In 1945 he moved to a farm near Mountain Home, Arkansas and in 1950 came back again with his parents to Iowa, this time to Zearing. While a young man he worked on a farm near St. Anthony and in February of 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army.

After taking his basic training at Camp Carson, Colorago, Leamon was transferred to Alaska where he was stationed for two years and became proficient as a ski-trooper and instructor in the art.

In July of 1954 he was returned to the United States and was granted a thirty day furlough which was spent with his parents and other relatives. He reported on August 15th to Camp Carson, Colorado for further reassignment.

On September 1, 1953, he met his untimely death while being flown by plane from Fort Ord, California to Fort Lewis, Washington.

Leamon was loving son and brother and a friend to all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Schultz, seven brothers, five sisters, and one niece, all at home in Zearing, his paternal grand mother, Mrs Ida Schultz of Farrar, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Moody of Mountain Home, Arkansas and many other relatives and friends.
