McCallsburg Boy Laid to Rest in Zearing Cemetery

Special to the Journal:
McCallsburg, Aug.4--The funeral of Richard Bannon, son of Mrs. Oscar Barkley was held at the St. Gabriel's church in Zearing Friday morning at nine o'clock with Rev. J. P. Connel officiating. The pall bearers were chosen from boys of parish and Bernard and Carroll Meiman, Donald Greiner, Lawrence Kadolph, Pat Gogerty and Robert Wheelock. Burial was made in the Zearing cemetery.

The members of the family in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Barkley, Miss Wilma Moodie of this place and Mrs. Barkley's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Moodie and sister-in-law Mrs. Edd Bannon of Argyle.

Richard was born in Des Moines May 30, 1927 and passed away at his home here on July 27, 1938 at the age of 11 years, after a lingering illness of asthma and other complications. Richard had spent about a year with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Moodie at Argye and it was while he was there he became ill and though he was given every attention, he failed to respond to treatment and was brought home where everything possible was done to relieve his great suffering but to no avail and he passed away at an early hour Friday morning.

A sister Harriet Bannon who is in California at present was unable to be here for the funeral, his grandfather Bradsky* attended the service at the home but was unable to go to the church.

The friends of the family extend them much sympathy in their bereavement.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Richard Eugene Bannon was the son of Joseph Bannon and Frances E. Brodsky (not Bradsky as stated.) The grandfather referred to in the obituary was Louis J. Brodsky.
