Services for area deaths

MRS. OSCAR (FRANCIS) BARKLEY

A former Story County resident, Mrs. Oscar (Francis*) Barkley, 85, died Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Harris, in Haverhill, Iowa.

Mrs. Barkley was born August 31, 1882* at Plover, Iowa, the child of Louis and Catherine Bodsky*.

After her first husband, Joseph Bannon, died, Mrs. Barkley married Oscar Barkley August 14, 1933. For years, Mrs. Barkley owned and operated the McCallsburg Hotel in McCallsburg before selling it and moving to Zearing.

Mrs. Barkley lived in Zearing until about four years ago when she moved to the Haverhill home of her daughter.

A requiem mass for Mrs. Barkley will be held Wednesday at the St. Gabriel's Church in Zearing at 10:30 a.m. A rosary will be said May 14 at 8 p.m. in the Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown.

Mrs. Barkley is survived by one stepson, Dan Barkley of Grimes, one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Harriet) Harris of Haverhill, 1 brother, George Rodell of Winterhaven, Florida, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The maiden name of the deceased was Frances E. Brodsky, not Francis Bodsky, as stated. She was born 31 August 1887, not 1882 as stated. She was 86 years of age.
