Rites Held For Eugene Womeldorff
Zearing, Iowa--Funeral services for E. W. Womeldorff were conducted at 2:00 p. m. on September 8, 1953, from the Bethel Evangelical United Brethren Church in Zearing, Iowa. The Rev. Darald D. Eller, pastor, officiated.
To solos "Under His Wings", and "Beyond the Sunset", were sung by a male quartet composed of Paul Lundy, Eldon Crain, Dale Johnston, and Glen McBride. Mrs. Walter Lund played the organ.
Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Myrtle Elev, Mrs. Lela Madison and Mrs. Daisy Johnston.
Casket bearers were Dr. R. A. Ricketts, Asa Barnard, John Johnston, K. L. Cerka, Dave Tucker and Lewis Fuller.
The funeral was in charge of the Brouhard Funeral Home, Zearing, Iowa.
Internment [sic] was in the Zearing cemetery.
Friends and neighbors were shocked with the passing of Mr. E. W. (Gene) Womeldorff while shopping with his family in McCallsburg on Friday, Septebmber 4th at 5:00 p. m. On complaining of feeling faint he was rushed to the office of Dr. Du Bois but was dead on arrival. Mr. Womeldorff had suffered heart trouble for some time and a stroke was the immediate cause of death.
Eugene Warren Womeldorff, son of George W. and Maria Beeks Womeldorff, was born April 13, 1875 in Chenda (Pike township), Illinois. He was the second in a family of twelve children and of these is now survived by three sisters and two brothers, all living in Illinois.
At the age of fourteen he united with the Bethel Methodist church in Chenda, in which vicinity he farmed with his father until he was twenty-seven years of age. At this time he went to Idaho where he purchased a farm. There he met and married subsequently Bessie Trunnel on October 29, 1902.
They resided in Idaho for eight years where three children, Russell, Pauline and James were born. In 1910 they sold the farm and purchased ranothe farm southeast of Zearing, Iowa, on which they lived for thirty years. Here three more children, Burnell, Lyle and Curtis, were born. All six children were educated in the Zearing public schools and grew to adulthood in this community. For the past eleven years they have resided on a farm near McCallsburg.
Mr. Womeldorff is survived by his wife, Bessie, a daughter, Mrs. Lyle Black of Des Moines, four sons, Curtis of McCallsburg, Burnell of Mingo, James E. of Little Rock, Ark. and Lyle R. of Casablanca, Morocco, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Russell, the oldest child passed away in 1941 at the age of thirty-seven years.
Since January 21, 1912, Mr. Womeldorff has been a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church in Zearing.
One of his ambitions in past years was to live to celebrate his fiftieth wedding anniversary. This occurred on October 26, 1952, a happy and memorable occasion among his family, relatives and friends.
Mr. Womeldorff's entire life was engaged in farming. His role in life was a good citizen, his congenial spirit among his family and friends and his christian faith, has endeared his memory to all concerned.
Note: Among relatives attending from out of town were Miss Ethel Womeldorff and Mrs. H. I. Doren of Decatur, Ill., sisters of Mr. Womeldorff, a brother Gilbert Womeldorff of Wheaton, Illinois, two nephews, Dawson and Donald also of Wheaton, and a niece, Mrs. Gordon Walters of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Cousins attending the funeral from Webster City, Iowa were Mrs. Minnie Womeldorff, Mrs. Myron Payne, Mrs. John Borgardt and her daughter Kandis. Also attending were relatives and friends from Mingo, Grinnell, and Des Moines.
