Edward Carroll, Former Kelley Man, Victim of Pneumonia
Kelley, April 8--Edward Carroll, 62, a life long resident of southern Boone county, died at the Boone county hospital in Boone Sunday morning, March 28, after a few days illness. On Tuesday before his death, while working in Des Moines he became wet and chilled and pneumonia developed. He grew rapidly worse and was taken to the hospital on Friday. News of his death came as a shock to his friends as he had been in his usual good health until he sustained the attack.
Mr. Carroll had resided on a farm southwest of here about two miles until December when he moved his home to Madrid, where the family now resides.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 9 a. m. at St. Malachy's church in Madrid with the Rev. Father Poeches in charge with interment in the Sacred Heart cemetery in Boone.
Pall bearers were all sons of close friends of the deceased: George Wilson, Elmer Peterson, Edward Roney, Lewis Sheldahl, Billy Stevens and Lewis Stensland.
Mr. Carroll was born in Boone county Sept. 16, 1874, the son of Barney and Ellen Carroll. He was 62 years, 6 months and 12 days of age. He spent his boyhood days near his birthplace and when a young man was married on April 4, 1889. To this union one son and four daughters were born.
Mr. Carroll had farmed practically all his life until of late he had been doing carpenter work. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Earl Madison of Madrid, Mrs. L. W. Meredith of Des Moines, a son Francis of Madrid, one sister in Michigan. Two daughters preceeded him in death. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Martha Carroll, a sister-in-law lives in Kelley.
