DEATH OF A PIONEER NEVADA CITIZEN
Mrs. James Lovell Passes Peacefully Away at Her Home Wednesday
Mary L. Romaine was born at Catland, Indiana, November 11, 1833, and died at Nevada, Ia., October 29, 1902. A few years after her birth she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Romaine, to Illinois, where they made their home until 1854 when they immigrated to Iowa, coming direct to Nevada. The Romains were known as one of the pioneer families of Story county. She was married to James C. Lovell on October 11, 1856, and for nearly half a century they have lived in and been known as of the best people in Story county. Until a few years ago they lived on the old homestead in Richland township, where they reared a family of three children, James C. Jr., Mrs. Carrie Hill and Mrs. Libbie Balliett, the latter dying a score or more years ago. Having accumulated sufficient of this world's goods to satisfy them they left the farm several years ago, since which time they have enjoyed a life of ease and comfort in their old age in a pleasant Nevada home.
Mrs. Lovell was taken seriously ill some five weeks ago with what is supposed to have been a complication of stomach and bowel trouble, since which time she had been gradually declining. Her husband, children and grandchildren have been by her bedside since she was first taken sick and everything done that was possible to administer to her comfort, for it was conceded from the start that recovery was out of the question. She passed away at 8:40 Wednesday evening.
The funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Jennie Hogan Brown of Chicago. The deceased lived and died a firm believer in spiritualism. Mrs. Lovell had lived a good live and dies beloved by all who knew her.
