Nevada man fatally shot

NEVADA - Des Moines police continued their investigation Monday into the shooting death of a 31-year-old man in his apartment on the city's near north side.

William David Wardrip as pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning.

Officials said Wardrip had been shot several times in the chest, but refused to give further details.

Wardrip, who was the son of Dale and Ramona Hall Wardrip of Nevada, was a supervisor at Firestone in Des Moines, and was a member of the Central United Presbyterian Church of Nevada.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Dale Wardrip and one sister Mrs. Donna Walther of Renwick.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Wardrip.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 10:30 a.m. from the Ryan Funeral Home. Rev. Gehrald Riesen will officiate with burial in the Nevada Cemetery.

Found guilty of Wardrip murder

A Des Moines man was found guilty Saturday in Polk County court of the January 22 murder of a former Nevada resident.

Kenneth Hayes was found guilty in a trial by jury after he confessed to shooting William David Wardrip in Wardrip's apartment.

Wardrip, 31 at the time of his death, was the son of the late Dale and Ramona Wardrip. Wardrip attended Nevada schools and graduated from Nevada Community High School in 1964.
