Bielefeldt Funeral Rites Held In Story City Church
STORY CITY Funeral services for Sanford Bielefeldt were held on Monday afternoon Nov. 19 at the Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Story City at 2 o'clock with the pastor Rev. W. D. Winter officiating.
Mrs. Andy Nelson sang, "Come Ye Disconsolate", "I Need The Every Hour" and "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked," at the service. Mrs. Darrell Doolittle served at the organ.
Burial was in the Roland Cemetery. Pall bearers wer Marion Bailey, George Christian, Cyrus Christian, Francis Boston, Obed Ritland, and Lloyd Ritland.
Obituary
Sanford Leroy Bielfeldt was born January 12, 1889 at Wheatland, Cedar County, Iowa. He passed away Nov. 15, 1956 at the Story City Hospital after suffering a stroke. At the time of his death, he had reached the age of 67 years, 10 months and 3 days.
He was united in marriage to Charity Gibson on November 22, 1900 at Dedham, Iowa. He is survived by four children: Vere, of Roland, Arthur Jr. of Waterloo, Julia of Des Moines and Cecil of Rolfe. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
As a young man he farmed with his father in Cedar County. He attended Cornell College, Mt. Vernon where he received his teaching certificate. He taught school in Cedar County until he came to Carroll County.
The family lived on a farm in Carroll County until 1914 when they moved to Worth County. In 1920, they moved to Story County, living on a farm northwest of Roland. When they retired in 1943, they moved to Story City. Since the death of his wife which occurred on December 28, 1955, Mr. Bielefeldt lived with his son, Vere, at Roland. In August he went to live at the Gilmore Rest Home in Nevada. He suffered a stroke on Thursday, Nov. 8th and was brought to the Story City Hospital where he passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15.
Mr. Bielefeldt made many friends as he called in their homes as assessor in Howard Township. He served on the Roland School Board for a number of years, serving as president. He pioneered in the original organization known as the A.S.C. program. He also served on the Roland Creamery Board for number of years.
