Henry K. Matson Funeral Services Held in Story City
Henry Karl Matson was born in Randall, Iowa April 3, 1902 to John and Mary Matson and lived most of his life in this community. He attended the Story City schools and worked with his father as a carpenter.
On Aug. 20, 1925 he was united in marriage to Grace Skogerboe. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Luther of Story City and Conrad of Cedar Rapids.
He attended the Iowa Barber College and obtained his licence from there in 1927. After working in Radcliffe for a few years he moved with his family to Story City, where he opened his own barber shop which he continued for the past thirty years. During these years he made a host of friends in the community.
In June of this year Henry suffered a severe heart attack and was hospitalized for a number of weeks. His recovery seemed favorable and he was allowed to work for a few hours each day. In October he suffered a second heart attack ans was convalescing at home when he had a cerebral hemorrhage which caused his death.
His last illness was on November 20th. He died at the Story City Memorial Hospital on December 4th at 3 a. m.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mrs. Mamie Olson, and a brother, Andrew Matson.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; two sons, Luther and Conrad; the daughters-in-law, Phyllis and Bonnie and five granddaughters. Three sisters and one brothers also survive. They are Mrs. Myrtle Florence and Louie Matson of Charles City, Mrs. Lillian Muller of Oakland, Calif. and Mrs. Grace Breed of Escondido, Calif.
Funeral Services
Funeral services were conducted from the Grace E.U.B. Church in Story City on Wednesday afternoon, December 6 at 2 p. m. The Rev. Henry W. Riegal officiated. Mrs. Dorrel Doolittle, organist and Mr. Delbert Quam sang several hymns.
Pall bearers were Cecil Spatcher of Ames, Gay L. Johnson, George Dyvik, Sherman M. Larson, Fred Hendrickson and L. C. Richardson.
Interment was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
