DEATH OF PIONEER.

John Hawkns [sic] Passed Away at Home of Daughter.

Special to The Journal.
Colo, Sept. 5--John Harkins passed away at Tama, Ia., Thursday Aug. 30, at 1:30 p. m., at the age of 82 years, 2 month, 13 days. Mr. Harkins was born in England, June 17, 1841 and at the age of 8 years, moved with his parents, brother and sister to New York. In that state and Illinois he made hs home until June 9, 1869, when he was united in marriage to Susan Hall at Franklinville, N. Y. He then moved to Sycamore, Ill., at which place was his home until Jan. 30, 1882. He then moved with his family to the farm northeast of Colo which was his home for 41 years. One year was spent in Colorado until March last since that time has spent his time visiting relatives and friends. Mr. Harkins is survived by four daughters and one son Mrs. Edward Wilson and Mrs. Fred Holloway of Morhaven, Fla., Mrs. Lela Elliott, Tama, Bert Harkins of Des Moines and Mrs. N. C. Borton of St. Anthony.
