PIONEER DIED AT GILBERT TODAY

CHRIS PETERSON HAD LIVED IN COMMUNITY FOR OVER 50 YEARS

Special to the Journal.
Gilbert, April 9--Christ Peterson, 87, pioneer of this neighborhood, died at his home in Gilbert at 2:00 o'clock this morning from complications due to old age.

The funeral will be held at the Gilbert Lutheran church Saturday afternoon at 2:00, with Rev. Helmark in charge.

Mr. Peterson, a native of Fyn, Denmark, where he was born October 22, 1842. He came to America in 1872 and located on a farm south of Story City.

He was united in marriage to Sophia Sorensen in 1879. They continued on the farm until 1914 when they retired and moved into Gilbert, where the wife died April 3, 1929.

Since the death of Mrs. Peterson he had maintained his home here, with Mr. and Mrs. Hans Peterson in charge and assisting in his care.

While he leaves no children, he leaves a number of brothers and other relatives, some of them living on the Pacific coast at this time and it is pending their arrival that the funeral was deferred until Saturday. One brother, Andrew Peterson lives at Marathon.
