From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Verl Everett White, 86, of Kelley, passed away January 15, 2018 at the Madrid Home in Madrid. Verl was born on April 21, 1931, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Everett and Edna (Rains) White.

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 5pm-7pm at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010). A Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:00am at Stevens Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow services in the Kelley Community Cemetery in Kelley, Iowa.

Verl lived his entire life in Kelley. He attended the Kelley consolidated schools. Verl was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Army from 1951-1953. Verl worked his entire career as a talented heavy machine operator for different companies and retiring in 1996 from Con-Struct. He worked on many large projects throughout his career such as the new ISU football stadium and helped build the Boone Speedway. Verl enjoyed camping, NASCAR, golfing and attending races at the Boone Speedway. Verl and Gloria enjoyed heading south to Branson and Arkansas and taking their young grandchildren camping every summer for a week. Verl was well known to take very good care of his vehicles.

Verl was the oldest of seven children. Verl met his wife Gloria (Brekke) in 1949 and they were united in marriage on February 3, 1951 in Ames, Iowa. There were married for 66 years, just two weeks shy of 67 years. To this union, three children were born; David (Ann) White of Slater, Daniel (Cindy) White of Nevada and Pamela (Jim) Yahraes of North Carolina. Verl enjoyed his six grandchildren; Nick (Katie) White of Ankeny, Tim, (Allison) White of Slater, Christina (Allen) Goodlaxson of Nevada, Kelli (Fiancé Tyler) of Geneseo, IL, and Chris and Jill Yahraes of North Carolina. Verl had three great-grandchildren, Owen and Gavin White of Ankeny and Mady White of Slater. Sister; Mary (Phil) Ingersoll and Brother; Bob White. Verl had two step grandsons; Kurt Johnson and Brian (Angela) Johnson and one step great-grandchild Autumn Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

Verl was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Dale, Larry, Raymond, Wayne and a son in law, James Yahraes.
