Lyle D Culp
May 31, 1929 - January 11, 2018
ObituaryLyle Culp went to be with his Lord on January 11, 2018 at Taylor House. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, Iowa 50010). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel, burial will follow services in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell, Iowa.
Lyle was born on May 31, 1929 to Elmer and Estella (Noe) Culp. Lyle graduated from Garrison High School in 1946. After graduation he worked as a Farm Laborer, until he joined the Army. He was an Army Cpl. with the 45th Division of the 279th Battalion as a Gunner 81mm Mortar. He received a commendation Ribbon and Metal Pendant for Meritorious Service in Korea. He served from 1952-1953.
Lyle returned to Garrison and continued as a Farm Laborer including 80 acres that Lyle and his brother Theron (Dean) inherited from their parents. In 1960 he opened an implement business called Culp Sales and Service in Traer, Iowa. He sold Case implements and American Motors Cars. From 1970-1982 he started selling New Holland implements and in 1974 discontinued the American Motors Cars. In 1977 Lyle decided to take the Civil Service Test to become a Rural Carrier. From 1981-1986 he worked as a sub-Rural Carrier in Traer and continued his business.
Lyle moved to Huxley, Iowa in December 1986 and became a regular Carrier in 1987 and retired in 1991. He married Agatha Allie on June 25, 1988. Both lived in Huxley until her death in April, 2009.
Lyle enjoyed riding his Case 800 in the Slater and Huxley's Summer Parades for 18 years. Tractors were his passion. He loved basketball and always went to the Ballard Girls and Boys basketball games. He loved watching Iowa State and even Iowa Hawkeyes. Lyle moved to Ankeny in 2015 to be with his Partner Diana Haines. He loved his family and enjoyed family activities. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his Partner; Diana Haines of Ankeny, two step-sons; Marvin (Robbie Kerkove) Allie, Merlin (Neala) Allie of Huxley, and Daughter-in-law; Marilyn Allie, of Urbandale. Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lyle is preceded in death by his parents; wife Agatha Culp; brother; Theron (Dean) Culp, Step-son; Melvin Allie and nephew; Jerry Culp.
In lieu of Flowers Memorial Contributions can be made in Lyle's name to the Story County Freedom Flight and the ARL Animal Shelter.
