From Nevada Representative August 30, 1912 (front page)

Mrs. Peter Smith of Waukon, aged 56, was instantly killed today when an automobile driven by her son, Ben Smith, turned turtle on a country road near here, throwing the occupants of the car into a ditch at the side of the road. Will Smith, another son, and a small child of Charles Smith, another on living near here, were the other occupants of the car, and with the driver they escaped without serious injuries.

Peter Smith, the woman's husband was attending the state fair in Des Moines and was brought here in an automobile this evening.

The car had been driven near the edge of a small grade and when the driver attempted to turn it into the main roadway, the front wheels whirled, throwing the machine over. Mrs. Smith had her neck broken dying a few minutes after she was carried into the doctor's office. She never regained consciousness from the time she lit on the ground.

The family lives at Waukon and were visiting at the Charles Smith home northwest of here. They were coming to town when the accident happened. On Wednesday her remains were taken to Waukon, where the funeral will be held Thursday.
