Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Robert Dean "Bob" Nowlin passed on April 7, 2017, of cancer, at his home in Tucson, Arizona.

Bob graduated from Ames High School and attended DMACC. He worked in the hospitality industry in Ames and Tucson. Bob was a member of St Cecilia Catholic Church, the Ames Elks Lodge, and the Ames Moose Lodge 520 Family Center. He loved to golf and was a huge fan of the Iowa State Cyclones.

"My Bobby: Bobby was born at Mary Greeley Hospital on January 18, 1961 to Austin R. Nowlin and Karen Compton Popelka. Bobby was a very outgoing man with more love in his heart for his family, especially his nieces, Payton, Taylor, Tatum and Tori Jo. The outpouring of love from his classmates and co- workers who remember him as a generous and caring man.

Most people Bobby met were instantly his friends. The Facebook condolences all comment on his smile, his generosity and his kindness going clear back to Jr. High. Bobby could not be measured by success or position. He can only be measured by those whose lives he touched, which were many. He had a special way of making everyone feel special. What a gift to have.

I know this is not the norm as an obituary but it is so important to me, his mother, to let you know what a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend he was."

Bob is survived by his mother, Karen Popelka of Ames; his sister, Tracy Nowlin of Ames; his brother, Tad (Tami) Nowlin of Peoria, Ariz.; our very dear family friends, Jeff and Cindy Jorgensen; his step-brothers, David (Mary) Popelka and John (Sabi) Popelka; his step-sisters, Diane (Lyle) Gingerich and Janet (Dale) Thorne; and his aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ozzie Nowlin; and his step-father, Neal Popelka

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to the family.
