Steve Buser, 51, of Ames, died suddenly on Friday March 17, 2017, following a medical emergency while at work.

Steven Paul Buser was born July 31, 1965, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Bob and the late Bonnie Rae (Smith) Buser, the eighth of their nine children. Steve grew up in Nichols, Iowa, and was a graduate of the West Liberty High School Class of 1984. He was united in marriage to Angela Lynn Meeker on August 28, 1993, in Muscatine. Braxton Lynn, the light of Steve's life, was born on May 16, 1998.

Steve was a career firefighter, starting first as a volunteer for the Lone Tree Volunteer Fire Department and then joined the Ames Fire Department full time on November 18, 1999, as a firefighter EMT and certified CPR and defibrillator instructor.

There was rarely an experience that Steve wasn't up for, but his favorite things included camping with Angie in their RV, building signature campfires, geocaching through the 99 counties in Iowa and wherever else they traveled, and biking during every season. He rode RAGBRAI seven times with his best friend, Scott Mills, usually sporting a kilt and his firefighting helmet. He had a knack for fixing anything--a process fondly known as "Busering"--and he was happy to share his skills with anyone in exchange for a nice cold beer.

Beyond these experiences, Steve had three very favorites: his wife, Angie, his daughter, Braxton, and their dogs, Maggie and Uli. He was a devoted husband and father. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his girls.

Steve's family includes his wife, Angie and daughter, Braxton; his father, Bob; his mother and father-in-law, Lori and Brian Connell; his siblings, Robin (Dan) Miles, Mike Buser, Susan (Wayne) Morgan, Brian Buser, Mary Jo Blessing (special friend, Al), David Buser, Dan (Marnie) Buser and Angela Buser (fiancé', Bob), his sisters-in-law, Chari (Mark) Esmoil, Mindy Meeker, Stori (Jon) Thompson and Shelli (Aaron) Rauen; his brother-in-law, John (Shelly) Snyder Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Rae; his grandparents, Jack and Marge Buser, and Glen and Josephine Smith; and his nephew, Jason Colón.

Steve was a donor and in that spirit, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to the family.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
