Viola Mae Twedt was born on November 29, 1930 near Gilbert to Victor and Mamie (Jacobson) Lura. She started school at Gilbert and moved to Roland in 1942, where she started 6th grade. Vi graduated from Roland in 1948 and went to a comptometer school in Des Moines, where she worked until 1950. Vi was united in marriage to Harris “Pete” Twedt, Jr. in September 24, 1950.
To this union four children were born; Karen (Brad) Anderson of Clive,IA, Steven Twedt of Roland, Kathryn (Gary) Filipiak of Flanagan, IL and Robert (Barb) Twedt of Castle Rock, CO.
Vi was involved with church activities, sang in the choir and Bergen Trio, Friends in Service and many other community affairs. She worked in the Roland State Bank for several years. After suffering a stroke in 1991, she was still active in family activities and gatherings. Vi taught her family the tradition of making lefsa!! She loved and enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Vi passed away March 17, 2017 at Bethany Manor in Story City at the age of 86.
She is survived by her husband Pete; her children; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a sister, Alice (Lyle) Jack of Albany, OR.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Josephine Lura and a brother, Eugene Lura.
