OBITUARY

S. J. McCOWIN PASSES AWAY

Samuel J. McCowin who came with his wife to Iowa from northern Indiana in 1855 and settled at Iowa Center, Story county, where he lived for many years, but for a few years past has resided with his daughter, Mrs. George McQuillen, in Des Moines, died on Friday, the 13th from old age. He was buried at Iowa Center beside his wife who passed away eleven years ago. Rev. Rosenbloom conducting the funeral.

Samuel McKowin was born in Beaver county, Pa. in 1831. He was a man of sterling integrity, served as justice of the peace at Iowa Center for many years and owned and operated a saw mill there. He leaves two sons and a daughter, Mrs. E. F. McQuillen of Des Moines, E. H. McCowin of Kingsley, Iowa, L. H. McCowin of Omaha, Neb., and seven grandchildren. He was a good citizen and greatly respected by all who knew him.
