Don’e Mae Wert Payne, 98, of Boone, formerly of Farrar, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

Don’e Mae was born August 23, 1918, in Farrar, Iowa the daughter of Clarence H. and Ila B. Wert. She was united in marriage to Russell Dunlap Payne on August 18, 1940. They farmed in the Farrar community for 51 years. Don’e Mae loved the farm life and was a faithful and loving helpmate to Bud. She was a lifelong member of the Farrar United Methodist Church. She had a unique life ministry of writing notes, cards and letters to many people. Don’e Mae also enjoyed attending the Maxwell Women’s Club. Above all, her greatest joy in life was her family.

Don’e Mae is survived by her two sons: Allan (LuOra) of Rocky Mount, VA and Stephen (Colleen) of Ogden; four grandchildren: Andrea (Bryan) Payne Parks of Bedford, Texas, Joel (Lori) Payne of Fredericksburg, VA, Nathan (Tanis) Payne of Ankeny and Danielle (Adam) Payne Vandehaar of West Des Moines; four great-grandchildren: Caleb Parks of Bedford, TX, Rebecca Payne of Bedford, TX, Meghan and Aiden Payne of Fredericksburg, VA; and two great-granddaughters: Misa and Vera Parks. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Russell; an infant son, Phillip Eugene Payne and her sister, Kathryn Wert Longnecker.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 16, at the Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, at the Farrar United Methodist Church in Farrar, Iowa with burial to follow at the Farrar Cemetery.

The family extends sincere appreciation to Westhaven Community’s staff for her fine care, and to the medical staff and personnel at the Boone County Hospital for providing medical care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Farrar United Methodist Church or the Farrar Cemetery Association.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
