Clinton “Clint” Ratzlaff, 92, of Maxwell, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016, at the Madrid Home in Madrid.
Clint was born January 17, 1924, in McPherson, Kansas the son of Adam and Agnes (Unruh) Ratzlaff. He was united in marriage to Norma Phillips on November 3, 1946; Norma passed away in 1994. In July of 1998, Clint married Charmyl Dybwad, who passed away in 2003. He was a member of the Maxwell VFW, the Maxwell United Methodist Church, the IRLCA and the Purple Heart Association.
Clint served in United State Army in the 38th Infantry, 2nd Division earning a Purple Heart for injuries received during the D-Day Invasion, where he landed on Omaha Beach. He entered the service in 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Clint worked as a farmer, 13 years for the NADC and 28 years as a rural mail carrier in Maxwell retiring in 1990. He enjoyed playing cribbage, dancing and spending time with his family.
Clint is survived by his children: Ron (Sandra) Ratzlaff of Solon, Rex (Denise) Ratzlaff of Ankeny and Marlene (Gary) Cummings of Maxwell; his twin sister, Clara Wance of Hesston, Kansas; his grandchildren: Eric Ratzlaff (Eke Rudloff), Nina Ratzlaff (Dave Baumgarten), Ethan Ratzlaff (Mary Clark), Tiffany Richeson, Sara Cummings, Clint Martin, Clint (Nicole) Cummings and Lindsey (Jim) Williams; his great-grandchildren, Landon, Nolan, Eleanor, Callie and Cayla; and his special friend Gladys Heinen. Clint was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Norma; his second wife, Charmyl; his sisters: Frances Decker and Hilda Mitchell and his brother, Wesley Ratzlaff.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 12, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, also at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Maxwell Cemetery in Maxwell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Story County Honor Flight or the Purple Heart Association.
