From Nevada Representative December 10, 1915

COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE

SLATER

Mr. and Mrs. John Severeid of Huxley pioneer residents of that neighborhood died at their home there last week, Mr. Severeid on Thursday and Mrs. Severeid on Saturday. Mrs. Severeid had been ill and her death had been expected and Mr. Severeid had been feeble but it was not thought he would be first to go. Happily for them they passed away very nearly at the same time and on Wednesday both were laid to rest in the Palestine cemetery.

In the same column on the same page:

John O. Severeid was born December 23, 1833 at Nedra Sweden, Norway and came to the United States in 1854. He enlisted in the Union army in 1862 and was honorably discharged in 1865. Soon after this he came to Iowa and bought the homestead southeast of Huxley. Mrs. Severeid was born in Holmedal, Norway in 1854 and came with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Richardson to this country in 1866. Mr. and Mrs. Severeid were married Sept. 10, 1870. Seven children were born to them of whom five survive besides twenty five grand children. Both of these good people were devoted church workers and good citizens greatly esteemed by neighbors and friends.
