OBITUARY

Death of S. H. Beckwith.

Silas H. Beckwith, one of the old settlers of Grant township died on Tuesday at the home of a daughter in St. Louis, and his body arrived at Nevada on Thursday. The funeral will be held at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar D. Mathews of Grant township, on Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Beckwith hailed from Whiteside county, Illinois, and he came from there to Story county in 1872, locating a little west of what is now the village of Shipley. He lived there until the later '80s, when he moved to St. Louis to make his home with his youngest daughter, and there he continued to reside until his death at the ripe old age of 85. He is most kindly remembered by many old friends and associates in this county, and his death will be noted with much regret.
