A Fatal Plunge.
A sorry accident occurred yesterday forenoon at the Coliseum which is being constructed at Des Moines. W. J. Kennedy, a bricklayer, while working at the top of the south wall, lost his balance and plunged through fifty-five feet of space, striking squarely upon John A. Holmquist, a tailor, who was passing beneath. Holmquist's neck was broken and he died in a few minutes. Kennedy's injuries are thought to be only temporary. The man beneath saved him. Physicians say that had he struck the pavement he would have been crushed. Holmquist was a worthy man, in fair circumstances and leaves a wife and several children. Kennedy is a man of good habit, and his mistake was in leaning too far over the wall for a line which he was trying to reach.
