An Honored Pioneer Gone

Mrs. William Cozzens died at the family home in Colo Tuesday, August 21, 1909, aged seventy-seven years, eight months and three days. Her funeral was conducted from the family residence in Colo, last Thursday morning, by Rev. S. Skogsberg of the United Evangelical church, and her mortal remains laid to rest in the Colo cemetery to await the coming of the resurrection morning.

Martha Cozzens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Stewart, was born in Huntington county, Pa., December 28, 1831. She was joined in marriage first, August 19, 1857, to Asahel Hight of Hungton, Pa., who died May 8, 1882; and January 13, 1884, she was married to Wm. Cozzens of Colo, Iowa. Immediately after her marriage to Mr. Cozzens she moved with him to his home on his farm north of Colo, Iowa, where she resided until the year 1888, when they retired from the farm and took up their residence in Colo, where she lived till her death.

Mrs. Cozzens was a good woman, cheerful in her disposition and kindly disposed to all. She took sunshine everywhere she went. To become acquainted with her was to learn to esteem her; to know her better, was to love her. She was converted and became a Christian in her early life, and united with the Baptist church, near her childhood home; and upon her coming to Iowa, with the Baptist church of Nevada, of which she remained a faithful member until the Lord took her.

Those left to mourn are her husband, one brother, one sister, ten step-children, a large number of step-grand children and many friends all of whom are commended to the sustaining grace of God. --S. S.
