OBITUARY
PETER M. MATHISON
Peter M. Mathison, who lived on the west borner of Nevada township on the old Fetterhoff farm, died Friday at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, and his funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church in this city. He had been an invalid for several years and for some time hopeless one, the trouble being a tumor on the brain. Finally at his earnest desire an operation was attempted with a view to relieving his trouble; but the condition revealed by the operation was not one the surgeons could cure, and his death followed in about a week after the operation was attempted.
The deceased was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Mathison, and he was born in Denmark in 1870; but he was brought here when a small child and spent his life in this vicinity. He was married in 1894 to Miss Etta Belle Fetterhoff, and he is survived by his wife, seven of his eight children, his mother and several brothers and sisters. His age was 46 years. He was a man held in much esteem and his death invites much sympathy for the surviving relatives. For himself it is undoubtedly true that the end was a relief from suffering.
