NEVADA MAN MEETS DEATH ON BATTLEFIELD SAYS TELEGRAM MONDAY
HE ENLISTED IN OREGON
Particulars Are Lacking and Only Word Is that Death on July 20th
Add one more name to the gallant young men who hae paid the penalty of the Hun war.
A telegram was received at Nevada Monday evening that carried the news of the death of Clare S. Stephens, son of T. H. Stephens, who resides in Nevada, and which telegram stated briefly the son had been killed in France on July 20. There were not further particulars.
Mr. Stephens is the first Nevada boy to lose his life in battle. He was born July 2, 1881, on the day that Garfield was shot. He enlisted in Oakland, Calif., on September 12, 1917, and soon thereafter went to France with the Engineers, Company A, National Guard. Two sisters and his father survive him at Nevada, while he has a wife who resides in California.
