Obituary

'Cora Slifer, daughter of Jacob and Catherine Slifer, was born in Grundy Center, June 11, 1870. At the age of 14 she came to Nevada to make her home with her sister, and has been a resident of this community for the past 68 years.

She was united in marriage to Edgar Statler. In 1904 she joined the Central Presbyterian church and was active in church affairs. Her cheerfulness and friendliness won her many friends; children were attracted to her and her family, so the Statler yard became a gathering place for the children of the neighborhood.

She had been in remarkable health for her age until recent months. She never completely recovered from an illness that came upon her in February of this year, and passed away at her home Friday, June 1. She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters, Clara, Mrs. W. C. Nelson, and Marguerite, Mrs. R. A. Frederick.

She is survived by her son, Sam Statler of Knoxville, daughters, Edna, Mrs. Francis J. Burns of South Bend, Ind., and Louise; Mrs. Donald Gamble of Metamora, Ill. and by four grandchildren, Jane Bebb of Nevda and Michawaka, Ind., Gary and Miriam Gamble of Metamora, and Mrs. A. C. Marshall, Jr., of Peoria, Ill. She also leaves one great grandson, Jonathan Steven Marshall, and several nieces and nephews.

Her many friends will miss her cheerful presence.
