Edgar Statler, 79, native son of Nevada, died at his home, 1029 Tenth street, at 2:00 a. m. today from the effects of apoplexy which he suffered ten days ago. Mr. Statler had suffered a former stroke several years ago, since which time he had been crippled some but had been able to be up and about home and up town.

Death came early today in the preence of Mrs. Statler, his two daughters and one son-in-law, W. C. Nelson.

Funeral services will be held in the Bishop Funeral home on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 with Rev. Jos. M. Kennedy of Central Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery.

Edgar Statler was among the native sons in Nevada, having lived here his entire life.

He was born a son of Samuel S. Statler and Margaret Jane Stevens-Statler, February 5, 1865, his birthday being a log house which stood at the corner of Eighth and G avenue, the site of the present home of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Rierson.

He spent his boyhood in Nevadam attended the public schools, was employed in various ways for a time and finally became associated with his father in the grocery business. After the retirement of his father, he was associated for several years with his brother, Ferd Statler in business and finally bought out the brother and conducted the store alone for several years, retiring about 14 years ago. He was engaged in business in Nevada periodically for close to 40 years.

He was untied in marriage to Miss Cora Slifer of Grundy county in September of 1885 and she with one son and two daughters survive him.

Two daughters Mrs. Clara Nelson and Mrs. Margaret Fredricks, have passed away within the past few years. Surviving children are Samuel Statler, World war veteran now in a Veterans hospital at Knoxville, Mrs. Edna Burns of South Bend, Indiana and Mrs. Louise Gamble of Metamora, Illinois. A granddaughter, Mrs. Jane Bebb, had made her home with the grandparents since the death of her mother, Mrs. Fredericks, a few years ago.

Besides these he leaves four grandchildren, a brother, Ferd Statler of near Farrar and two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Flatch of Amboy, Illinois and Miss Margaret Statler, now at the O. E. S. Home in Boone.

Through his long residence in Nevada, Mr. Statler had gained a wide acquaintance over the county. He was greatly devoted to his home and family and his death will be deeply mourned by the wife, children and grandchildren.

He had been a member of Nevada lodge No. 99 A. F. and A. M. for many years and had also been an active member of the K. of P. and Odd Fellows lodges.
