Luke Murphy died February 6, 1911 at Park City, Utah, aged 44 years, 9 months and 24 days. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Fr. Gallagher at Park City. The interment was in the Nvaa cemetery beside remains of the family who had gone before. Luke Murphy was born April 12, 1866 near Famworth, Canada. he came to the United States in the spring of 1877, with his parents and the family and lived on a farm near Elwell, Iowa. He left Iowa in 1888 going to make his fortune. He went in the Dakotas and Montana but finally settling at Park City, Utah, engaged in mining. He was never married.

He held several positions of trust. Finally his health failed him and he was obliged to abandon work. He entered the Miner's hospital January 2 and remained until death relieved his sufferings, his death being due to hemorrhage of the lungs. He was of a noble, cheerful and generous disposition, always ready to help any one in distress and was well liked by large circle of friends as was plainly seen by the kindness and attention shown him. His brother Alfred of Boone was with him the last few weeks he lived. Luke was a most devoted Christian. Father Gallagher paid a beautiful tribute to the deceased. Old miners wept which was something they had not done in years. He was a member of the Miners Union of both Butte and Park City.
