Friday services for Edwin Orning

Edwin C. Orning, 70, 2017 Country Club Blvd., died Aug. 19 at Lake Miltona, Minn.

Services are Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. William E. Benbow of St. Andrews Lutheran Church officiating. Burial is in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Born Dec. 30, 1903 near Gilbert, Mr. Orning was lifetime resident of the Ames area. He graduated from Gilbert High School and received a B.S. degree from Iowa State University in 1929. He and Ella Mae Tweet were married Sept. 8, 1938 in Burlington. Mr. Orning was owner and operator of the Orning Glass Co., Inc. for 42 years. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and the Ames Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Allen Peter, 3913 Quebec St. and Stephen E., 1228 Kellogg Ave.; a daughter, Barbara Lynn, at home; a brother, Arthur, Pittsburg, Penn.; two sisters, Mabel Orning, 1801 30th St. and Mrs. Beatrice Petersen, St. Paul, Minn. and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Willis.

The body will lie in state Thursday afternoon and evening at the Adams Funeral Home.

A memorial fund for the Heart Fund has been established. Gifts may be left at the First National Bank.
