Inger Winterhus

Inger Winterhus, daughter of the late Engermond and Ragna Winterhus, was born in Sovde, Norway, on September 28, 1877.

She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Norway, and at the age of eleven years she emigrated to America with her mother and brother in the spring of 1886. Her father having come to Jewell the previous year, in the summer of 1888. After a brief stay with relatives in and around Jewell they moved to Roland.

She was confirmed in Bergen Lutheran church by Rev. C. B. Jacobson, and has held her membership there since. She was true to her Lord and her church. She spent most of her life at Roland and with the Evans family, where she was employed, and about four years ago she entered the Sunset Home in Story City, where she passed away at 12:15 on Wednesday, August 18, 1954, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Surviving are one brother, Ben Winterhus of Salol, Minn., and a half sister in California, besides nephews, nieces and cousins. Her parents, three half brothers and one half sister, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 o'clock at the Sunset Home in Story City with Rev. E. R. Rorem and Rev. Ivar Havneros officiating. Mrs. Peterson of the Sunset Home sang a solo. Service were held at the Bergen church in Roland at 2 o'clock with Rev. Rorem in charge. A ladies quartet sang at the church. Pall bearers were Oscar Flygstad, Andrew Eli Jacobson, Bankie Flygstad, Oscar E. Langlan, Arthur Christopherson and Martin Evans. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.

Relatives and friends from out of town in attendance are the funeral were from Blue Earth and Salol, Minn., Holmes, Webster City, Duncombe, Slater, Radcliffe, Randall, Ames and Story City.
