CIVIL WAR VETERAN ANSWERED "TAPS"

CHARLES GRAVES, PIONEER COLO RESIDENT, DIED AT AMES

Special to the Journal.

Ames, April 27--Charles Graves, 86, Civil war veteran and Story county pioneer, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Hearn, here Tuesday night at 11 o'clock. The body was taken to the Brouhard Funeral home at Zearing, pending funeral arrangements. Funeral and interment will be at Colo.

Colo, April 27--With the passing of Charles Graves, longtime resident of Colo, at the home of his daughter Mrs. John Hearn of Ames, Tuesday at 11 p. m. but one member of the "Old Guard" is left at Colo.--William Bruner.

Mr. Graves, Civil war veteran lived in Colo for a half century of more, being engaged in conducting a dray line for much of that time. Shortly after the death of Mrs. Graves about three years ago he went to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Hearn.

The deceased leaves four children. They are Ed Graves of Des Moines, Clyde Graves of South Dakota, Mrs. John C. Hearn of Ames and Mrs. Jessie Brown of New York. All will be present at the funeral with the exception of the latter.

The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Episcopal church, Colo, followed by the interment in the Colo cemetery by the side of the body of Mrs. Graves.

Military honors will be accorded the aged veteran. The pallbearers, firing squad and escort being furnished by the Colo Post American Legion.
