From Nevada Representative May 26, 1911 (front page)

Lenore Mary Hearn, born in Colo, Iowa, March 2, 1907, died in Colo, May 20, 1911. Aged four years, two months and eighteen days.

Last Saturday evening the people of Colo were startled by the word that Lenore Mary, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hearn, now of Jewell Junction, Iowa, had died at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Graves, after an illness of only twenty four hours. The disease was probably spinal meningitis of infantile paralysis.

The funeral services were held from the Evangelical church Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. J. T. Hauser of Ames assisted by Rev. Strayfeller of Colo.

How kind were the friends who came down from Ames to pay tribute to the little life that had gone out, and now gentle were the hands, and tender the hearts of friends and neighbors in dear old Colo!

Here was a brilliant mind for one so young, and she seemed to have so splendid a hope for the future! Alas! she went away from us and left our hearts so broken. Her life was so brief, her sickness so severe and her patience to great that we marvel at it all. Well did the minister say that her life so short had fulfilled its mission and who of us can say where its influence ends.

Loving hearts and willing hands did all in their power to stay the messenger, yet as the shadows were lengthening her spirit went to be with Him when He shall make up His jewels.

So good bye dear one for a little time, and May the Lord watch between Thee and me, while we are absent from the other.
