From Nevada Representative August 10, 1904
Mrs. F. H. Holmes died at home in Ottawa, Kansas, Friday, August 5, her funeral was held on Sunday last, and the interment was in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Her malady, cancer of the intestines, began its fatal inroads before she removed from Nevada about a year ago and her suffering had been continuous, but her consciousness continued till the last. The daughters*, Misses Inez and Winnie, went from Nevada to her bedside about two weeks ago. Miss Amy was, at last account, still in the hospital training school at Minneapolis. The Holmes family lived in Nevada several years, their pretty home being on Vine street, and Mrs. Holmes most of the time assisting her husband in their store on Linn street. She was a woman of energy, independence of character and worth, was well esteemed, and dies regretted. Her family have the sympathy of their old neighbors and friends.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "The daughters" were actually the step-daughters of the deceased. Frank H. Holmes was married (1) to Nellie Graham on 17 May 1876 in Fillmore County, Minnesota. Nellie died 12 January 1894 and Frank married (2) 12 June 1895 to Sarah A. "Sadie" Mahaffy in Fillmore County, Minnesota.
